if i had to shoot a wedding on a farm for the rest of my life, i wouldn't put up a fight.

i just can't get enough of theses cute kids. my mini sessions at the studio have been beyond enjoyable for me and the kids are having the best time playing in front of the camera. after the end of most sessions, the kids have been the ones directing me on how to shoot them. it makes me smile to see that they enjoy this. i am making these sessions available again in july. this will be the last time before school starts so you may want to put your name on the books now. space is limited to 20 spots so please email me as soon as you can before they fill up. session dates are going to be featured tuesday-thursday from the 10th to the 26th. sessions include 20/30 minutes with me, online hosting, dvd of images for you to print from (15-20). $250 per session limited to two kids (additional children are $25 each). email me to book your spot at our heights studio.

i was excited to photograph brad and stacy's baby. not too long ago they were celebrating their 9 year anniversary and talking about how they wanted to start a family. it was worth the wait and little nicole is a doll and i can't wait to photograph her first year.

(01.16.12 @ 09:08 AM)

Hey :)
I wanna ask u what lens do u use? Cuz the photos are really great, and do u edit the photos to look like that or it's the camera setting?
when putting together this birth announcement i was inspired by my friend james and how she does her "what we wore" posts. i thought this would look perfect for a baby birth announcement since you have so much information that you want to share with everyone. i also wanted to avoid the standard announcements that get lost in the mix i also incorporated the big's in the card too. they sure do love their new sister.

BRILLIANT announcement. absolutely adore this entire shoot... simple, original, perfect. love!!!
~S
(11.03.11 @ 10:13 PM)simply adorable!
(11.07.11 @ 06:25 AM)Spotted your announcement on a couple of other blogs! I love your work and I'm glad so many other people do too :)

(11.10.11 @ 02:02 PM)thanks everyone! i love that you all enjoyed it.
(11.10.11 @ 02:36 PM)Hi Brooke,
Waaw, I absolutely adore your work!
I stumbled upon your website as I was looking for birth announcements.
My little peanut is due next week!
I love the pics that you shot of Eleanor Quinn Wells! so simple but oh so beautiful...
I have a quick question about this birth announcement: How did you do the writing on top of the photo? And was this somehow one card or several cards?
I love to do this announcement for my little one, but not sure how to ..
hopefully you could give me some tips?
Thanks!!

people often ask me what why people would want me to photograph their labor and delivery and usually i tell them that it is a beautiful event. if you are one of those who can't stomach this life event then i would skip over this post now! :) little did i know that home births were even more reason to photograph your child's birth- it was magical. i was not quite sure what to expect when aaron told me they were having a home birth with a midwife. i had never photographed one at home so I was not quite sure what to expect. i can say that so many more emotions occur outside of the sterile hospital walls and it was fun seeing the difference between the two. i had both of my children in the hospital where i felt safe, both experiences were great but there is something to be said about having your baby in your home with your family.
i arrived after aaron texted me around 2:30 p.m. saying she was "in transistion" which had me worried i was going to miss it because i had left my phone in the car during a shoot. turns out she was "in transition" when i got there so things did not come quite as quickly. :) i was happy to be there during this phase and watch rachel move gracefully through each contraction.
the birthing ball ---> moved to the swaying back and forth ---> moved to the shower ---> moved to the floor ---> moved to the chair and you get the point. rachel was strong and beautiful and gave birth to a healthy baby girl at 6:53 p.m.. little nova was a hefty 9 lb 12 oz and 21 inches long. she is perfect and mom and dad are doing well!
i photograph births because you are only born once. /////// visit their family to see some pre-nova pictures and baby ones too if they get time to blog!

aaron is an amazing videographer at 31 films so he had to grab some shots of nova as she had heart checked. she was so alert and interested in everything going on.

i was even there for novas first bath (it was an herbal bath that the midwives made for them).

Wow these images are gorgeous. Amazing. Breathtaking. What a gift to be able to have these moments captured! Thank you for sharing!!

(10.04.11 @ 09:17 AM)By the way...I've been trying to figure out how to explain the feelings I had when I caught and delivered Nova and handed her to Rachel. It's like nothing I'd ever felt before! Adam pinpointed it exactly in his post though: "Complete awe, joy, and even brokenness. All at the same time." Thanks for translating everything for me Adam :)
(10.04.11 @ 09:20 AM)Great job Brooke! It's was so nice meeting you at the birth. The photo's are amazing! So nice to have treasures of Nova's first moments with us and a glimpse of the emotion surrounding her entrance. She is definitely surrounded with love! Thank you!

a beautiful note from her husband on her blog:
"I think Sarah's light has shown so bright that this earth can no longer contain it. It's time for her to go to the true source of that light, to stop being the lone lantern shining into the darkness, but to join the grand symphony of radiance. It would seem selfish to keep her after she has worked so hard and is this close.
Shine bright firefly, shine bright... with tears in our eyes we cherish the path you illuminated."

What a beautiful blog entry. I didn't know Sarah but her story while so tragic is quite peaceful and makes me think about letting go all of the things that really aren't important. And focusing on what is. Thanks for that lesson.
(02.16.11 @ 05:02 PM)Your pictures of her will remain precious to her family and friends. That's how powerful and important a photograph can be. What a priceless gift.
(02.16.11 @ 07:28 PM)I've followed her blog ever since you posted about her. She seems to have been a beautiful person, inside and out. I'm saddened that she has left this earth and her family, but she is not in pain anymore. You did an awesome job on her wedding photos. Completely beautiful!
(02.16.11 @ 10:35 PM)Heartbreaking and beautiful all at the same time.
(02.17.11 @ 05:42 AM)I am so sorry for your loss. She seemed like such a wonderful person....I remember your post on their wedding quite vividly. Beautiful post Brooke!
(02.17.11 @ 09:12 AM)You captured her so well...thanks for sharing.
(02.18.11 @ 01:53 PM)I followed her blog and thought she was an amazing person. Her faithfulness to the Lord was so glorifying to God. Her life touched me and I will never be the same after sharing in her journey. I was so saddened to find out she had passed on but rejoice in the fact that she is in heaven, with Jesus, without any pain.

sometimes it can be difficult to find a venue here in houston that has a unique feel that offers all that you would need for a wedding celebration. rainbow lodge has to be on the top of my list of amazing venues in houston. not only is it a neat place, the food was spectacular and guests loved the quaint space. located near downtown houston, rainbow lodge throws out a warm vibe with rustic charm. it was really fun to shoot here with such a great couple!

Great blog...thanks for sharing your special day.. best wishes :)
(01.29.11 @ 07:21 AM)The kids looking at the cake is pricessless... as is the series against the fence. Love your work.

(04.05.11 @ 05:55 PM)
backing up, sarah contacted me to shoot her wedding in november of this year. it was going to take place on thanksgiving weekend and i just could not make it happen with my holiday schedule. i of course was disappointed because i wanted to capture that day for her and had been planning on it even before she had a husband in mind!
if anyone has ever planned a wedding, you know all of the details that might take place. it may take 6 months (at least) to find all the vendors to make it happen. this wedding was a testament to what it really is and is not about. what took place on sunday was a beautiful act and reminded me that this is the perfect example of what a wedding should be about. it was all so beautiful and true. it encourages me to live life day to day and relish every moment as if it was my last. i am glad that i did get to shoot her wedding after all!
a prayer service is being held tonight at ecclesia for sarah @ 8:00. click here to see more from their beautiful day.
