ashley, a.k.a the byrd collective, is one of my more recent friends and i feel blessed to have her in it. she and i connected last year over email and i felt like we were close from the start. ashley was in head on collision 4 weeks ago (her husband, son and dog were in the truck and made it out with little to no injuries). thankfully, their daughter was with grandparents at the time. ashley was not so lucky and was told by her dr. after the fact that she should have died. she came into the hospital with a broken back, broken ribs, a torn spleen, a torn aorta a sprained ankle and a torn duodenum. it didn't look fun. 1% of people in her condition make it to the hospital alive. i often think about how fragile life is and how anything could happen in an instant. ashley is a mother to two beautiful children and has a devoted husband who is by her side. she also is a talented florist who will likely jump right back into the swing of things....it just will take time to heal and rest. she asked me to document this "not so pretty" moment in her life so she remembers where she's been. i'm glad she's here.

The wonderful details the wedding party provided. I love the old fashioned straws that were placed in blue jelly cars. The flowers were provided by Tami with The Blooming Bride.
A family friend and WONDERFUL baker, Terri Edrich provided the yummy cupcakes and the brides handmade cake topper was a hit!

meet katie and her family. we have been the best of friends for 6 years now. katie is a wonderful mom and is in the business of selling houses and you may have seen her shooting weddings with me on the weekends if you are a bride. their family is very special to me and i have been blessed to capture both births of her girls and now her sweet family of four. their family and my photos have also been seen in the texas children's hospital ad campaign. if you are having a baby at TCH, their face may be familiar! enjoy.

oh unguh. brooke, these pictures are so beautiful and i l.o.v.e katie wells. what a gorgeous family!
(10.09.09 @ 06:15 PM)Precious!! Did you do the first few on the side of a highway? I've always wanted to do that but think ppl would think I'm nuts.
(10.14.09 @ 03:59 PM)here are some details from their wedding:
getting ready at hotel icon
ceremony at the co-cathedral of the sacred heart
reception at the rice hotel's crystal ballroom
one thing that i loved about this wedding was that we were able to spend a lot of time with the bride and groom after the wedding. they had an early ceremony so we made sure to get some shots of them without rushing to the party! it is a great way to enjoy your day!

kick A shots girl. love the angels and the whole nine. miss and luv ya
(08.27.09 @ 09:47 PM)Girl, these ROCK! Love that last shot on the bar! The one with her Dad is amazing too! Thanks for having me along and CONGRATS again to Jessica & Oscar!!
(08.27.09 @ 09:49 PM)Clearly, you are amazing at what you do!! I love the one of her dad and her in the background before the mass. :)
(08.27.09 @ 10:02 PM)Beautiful set. Great work. Love the one on the bar and them on the couch.
(08.28.09 @ 05:57 AM)these two have been living in london for their jobs and made it back to get married! their wedding reception was held at the hotel galvez.
wedding planner: valerie with belle of the ball.

at least sloan was in the shot with her camera this time instead of me! haha
(08.25.09 @ 01:23 PM)the ceremony took place at the houstonian. after the ceremony they have a final good bye and the father of the groom and his family escort the bride out to say good bye. this was one of the most emotional experiences i have ever seen. the bride is parting from her family and joining her husbands. it was very moving.

These photos are simply stunning. I love the colours and the you're focal points and the emotion. Wonderful job!
(08.25.09 @ 04:52 AM)Brooke you are awsome.Ten days of Wedding was ........I really dont have words to describe.Can't wait to see the album.Thanks a lot.
(10.27.09 @ 05:49 AM)neha was surrounded by family and close friends during her 2-day pre-wedding festivities. mohit celebrated with his family and then first saw neha at the ceremony. the hindu wedding celebration is focused on rituals and centered around family. deeply rooted in tradition, the colors and sounds of this event were truly a unique experience AND the food was to die for!
neha wore two amazing and elaborate dresses; one for the ceremony and another for the reception. she was a stunning bride. all of her attire and the details were brought in from india. check out all of the amazing colors from the family/guests. many kudos to neha and her mom for all of their hard work in the planning, too!
the wedding brought lots of joy and also some sorrow in watching their oldest daughter part from their family, which was very touching. this post will come in 3 OR 4 parts since i can not put all of them together in just one! to start, i'll introduce the bride and groom, and then the festivities leading up to the ceremony. enjoy.
here are a few more vendors that we enjoyed working with:
video :: alex from elysium productions
make up :: leslie wright
florist :: plants 'n petals
catering :: udipi cafe
dj :: yogi
cake :: susie's cakes
henna :: anju garg

wow. the colors are beautiful. it must have been something to witness and capture a ceremony so rich and strong with tradition. very nice images!
(08.16.09 @ 06:59 PM)Stunning! More, more, more!

(08.06.09 @ 03:48 PM)friday afternoon (summer 2009) we were out taking photos of my sister and her belly. stella wanted to put on her new dress on that my mom had bought her and tag along with us. she was a sight to see. my little princess had her shoes on backwards, her face was dirty and she wanted to be in on all the action!
it was not this day that i remembered my thoughts about stella and this song - but something did feel real when i snapped this photo of her running with flowers in her hand while she held her dress up. to finally know my daughter...and remember this song. very moving for me.

snow white by ryan long.
"Little girl on a crowded street sunburned and sandaled feet
I didn't want to see her cry
She said daddy I cannot see is she coming tell me tell me
Snow White in her magic palace ride
I said Rebecca wait patiently She'll be here soon believe me
I'm your daddy I would not tell a lie
Well her tears just stopped and she raised her hands
She started jumping around like was made to dance
And she was singing
I cannot wait for Snow White to come by
This day must be the very best day of my life
Rebecca looked up at me eyes wide as the raging sea
No camera could've captured my girls smile
She said daddy could you lift me up I can hear'm now and with any luck
Snow White will stop and dance with me awhile
She climbed on my shoulders and she hugged my head
She sang loud enough to wake the dead
And she was singing
There was something dead in me and she woke me from my sleep
And I can't remember when I sang so sweet
And we were singing"
Oh, this is so sweet. I've got goosebumps. If you're not careful you're going to make me want a kid- RIght Now! It must be wonderful. And the picture fits the song so well...
(07.26.09 @ 11:15 PM)this is so sweet ,,, i'm listening to the song, staring at this moment you trapped in time. it's so darling. i can see why it's so special for you, after reading what you wrote. i love that you posted this, for all the world to see; i think it's courageous to share like that. thanks. can't wait to read/see more like it.
(07.26.09 @ 11:31 PM)This is the most precious thing I have read in a long while! Although it is a little too late to be admitting to the world that I am a late night blog surfer I felt the need to comment because I went to Windy Gap as well and I think it might have even been the same summer as you! I am so happy that you brought this song back into my life, and that it means so much for yours! Have a wonderful week!
(07.27.09 @ 12:28 AM)meandering the web I landed on your blog. I was at Castaway in 1999 when Ryan Long wrote this song. He would hang out in the club room and me and my future husband would watch in awe. :)
(07.27.09 @ 06:21 AM)i can't wait for stella to have a boy cousin to play with! she will need one to play with for those holiday's together cause we all know i am not having one any time soon! :)

(08.05.09 @ 08:00 AM)
when the weather is unbearable, i just want to sit inside and never go back out. today i was wiped out from the 103 degree weather that i took a nap during gymnastics class. yes! i laid down on the bench to rest and fell asleep during her lesson. the 10 minute nap was amazing; or was it 20? when we got home she threw on her swim suit and went straight for the sprinkler. she is getting so big and this is really her first time to not be so frightened by the water hitting her face. thought i would share with you a few shots that i took with my new 50mm 1.2. i heart!

what a darling! :) i love her little bathing suit! :) wish it was summer here... boo to being in the southern hemisphere!!
